Biography

I, Prokofyev Sergey Yakovlevich, was born at 7 in the morning on 23 May 1984 in a beautiful city of roses, the city of miners, the capital of Donbass – Donetsk.
As all the children, I was a merry and active child. When I was born, the happiest person was my elder sister, as she got a “live doll”. She is 5 years older than me. Since the first days she has been my best friend and adviser. When I was only 1 year and 4 months old, a horrible tragedy happened – my father perished. The grief made our family even closer. I grew up in the atmosphere of love, always sure in the help and support of my family. I was extremely curious – many question bothered me: Why is an elephant big? Why is a mouse small? Why does it rain? etc.
When I was 2 I went to a kindergarten. I liked reading, singing, dancing. I was happy to play with other children. As I was friendly and helpful all the surrounding people – children and teachers – liked me.
In 1992 I went to school ¹ 54. I liked my first teacher – Yakovleva Galina Ivanovna – for her kindness, patience, love, support and encouragement in a difficult minute. I didn’t work very industriously, but with interest. Participated in social life of school – took part in conferences, contests, performances. I went in for photography, basketball and power lifting. I took some prizes in sports competitions and was quite successful in power lifting. School did not only give me knowledge, but also taught me to be a good person, not to be naive, to respect adults, to protect the little, to help the weak, to make decisions and to take responsibility. My school friends have been my best friends until now. In 2002 I finished school and a new stage in my life started.
Everyone in our region must have heard – and unfortunately not once – about accidents at mines of the region. It is terrible to hear about injuries received and deaths at mines. I wanted to help somehow, to make work at mines much safer. All my relatives have been connected with coal mining industry. My grandfather graduated from Donetsk Polytechnic Institute and he worked all his life at the department of “Mining of mineral deposits”. In 1971 – 1984 he was the dean of the Mining Faculty, since 1999 he was a professor at the chair of mineral deposits mining. He taught me to respect hard miners’ work and he encouraged me to enter one of the oldest higher institutes – Donetsk National Technical University. My parents and my sister also graduated from this university. My mother – a mining engineer-economist – still works as a rate setter at the mine named after Zasyadko. My sister got a diploma in “Ecological technologies and equipment in mining”, so I didn’t think too long before choosing the faculty of geotechnology and production management.
I will always remember my university years. New knowledge, acquaintance with new people, first earned money... I will always be grateful to my grandfather, my mother, all teachers for the world of science they opened to me. My working practice was at the Zasyadko mine. I got certificates of underground miner of the third grade, machinist of a drilling unit of the 4th grade, drift miner of the 4th grade. I learned about the miner’s work, when you extremely need true friends and you have to follow the safety rules.
The theme of my master’s degree work is “Development of the method of prognosis of tendency to endogenic fires, based on the study of the source water composition”. The supervisor of my work is doctor of technical sciences, professor Nikolin V.I.
