Investigations of the perspectives and efficiency of PCI technology global industrial usage on the Ukrainian plants

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In modern metallurgy the most strenghtless link is  too high energetic expenditure: in Ukraine to produce 1 t ferrous merchandises  must be used 1300-1500 kg of conditionally fuel, moreover, must be used expensive and deficious kinds of fuel, such as coke, crude and natural gas.

Blast furnaces from this 1300-1500 kg use before 70 %, its compose 30-40 % of pig-iron self-cost. As a concequence, the self-cost of the converter-produced steel, for example, the general consume of pig-iron, is strongly depend of pig-iron self-cost. This is the reason why the relative range of coke might be considering as universal significant of the plantes concureability. In the modern metallurgy relative range of coke equales 250-600 kg/t(pi). There are many parameters influense on the relative range of coke: the range of ferrous materials quality, coke quality, measurement methods, blast parameters, technologic parameters .

The most contemporaneous method of the relative range of coke decreasment is injection of the alternative kinds of fuel by tuyers. Traditionally on Russian, Ukrainian and Kazahstanian plants using the natural gas injections. This countries in the not-far-past belongs to USSR and  Russian natural gas was cheap for them. But recently cost of the natural gas for Ukraine is very high and in still increases. Ukraine have not his own gas or naphta resources, enough for his develop metallurgy. Dependence of russian, turkmenian or azerbajanian natural gas deliveries leads to decrease of plants concureability. In this time the world resources of coal much more then any other kinds of fuel, moreover for Ukraine. The coal is cheaper fuel. For the PCI production might be used any kind of fuel, but for coke production might be used only coking coals. Decrease of the relative range of coke as effect of PCI leads to more rational usage of the rare coking coals. Decrease of coke necessity have an unexpected effect – decrease of harm refuses of the coke plants. Numbers of total metallurgical workers must reduct.

But PCI system is much more expensive that the system for natural gas injection. Its built only by unukrainian enterprises, that leads to high cost of the system. Although than experiments about PCI usage goes from 1963 in USSR, it is not enough learned technology in Ukraine, in difference of gas injections. PCI usage claims the big changes of technology and new requirement of the schist. Decrease of the relative range of coke leads to increase of ore load, than also pretend higher requirement of coke quality. PCI needs in buidings areas and many of plants have not them. So, not for all blast furnaces is reasonable to built PCI systems, each plant must find his own way to decide.
