General characteristics of work

The relevance of the topic. Future master’s work is dedicated to identify the relationships between morphology and qualitative characteristics of the coal seam. As an object of study is supporting the coal seam l4 (Coke, mark B), in particular, a western section of its exploiting in the field of JSC " Main named after Zasyadko".

The examination of this topic is very urgent as there is a birning issue conserning the reduction of cost of coal beneficiation as well as the improvement of its quality parameters to standarts that are necessary with the purpose to sell the product not only in the domestic market but, also in the international market. The data obtained as a result of the work having been fulfilled can be used by the enterpprise while making prognosis as to the execution of mining in future.

The main problem is that cutting machine (UKD-200/250, the smallest grip of the executive element is 0.99 m) in the case of seam thinning grps and extracts a superfluous "portion" of soil and top rock. Thus, the coal being extracted is littered and this leads to the increase of ash and sulfur content, and this means that the costs of beneficiation increase to bring the coal to the commertial quality level.

The aim of the research: to identify the regularities of changes of thickness and their possible reasons and to determine the correlation of such deviations with the fluctuation of coal quality parameters (ash content, sulfur content, and devolatilization).

To achieve the aim it is necessary to perform the following main tasks: 1) to examine the factual materials which were collected during the coal before-exploration of mine field and along deep reservoir the coal seam l4; 2) to assess the completeness of studies and laboratory tests on coal ash and sulfur content; 3) to explore the geological climate of the district and the site of the work area; 4) to make the processing of evidence by using method; 5) identify and explain the connection of the quality characteristics between each other and in individual with power of the coal seam; 6) draw an analogy and compare the seam name l4 with seam name l1, which are exploiting on the mine field; 7) to give a forecast of distribution the indicators and to recommend the improving mining works.

The object of the research is the field of the mine named after A.F. Zasyadko and its western part in particular where there are underground mine workings on seam l4 being examined.

The subject of the research is the working area of longwalls 2, 3 and 4 where the coal of seam is extracted.

Methods of research: statistical (data processing in the package SPSS), the correlation analysis, tsidimensional analysis (mapping in the package of Surfer), graphic, experimental, geophysical, analytical.

Scientific novelty of the work: A new method of prognostication of qualitative characteristics of the coal seams has been obtained which allows adjusting it to complicate geological conditions of Donbass; the regularities of influence of changes in seam thickness upon its qualitative indicators have been identified.

The substance of the work is that the results of Master's thesis can be taken into account in guidelines as to estimating the affect of changes in the morphology of the seam l4 upon mining works and can be introduced into the industry at other mines of Donbass region and our country.

Personal contribution of the author to the work is: the experimental data has been processed by methodology which wasn’t been used in the mine befor, and also the results of the processing have been interpreted.

The publication on the given topic is being in the edition "Collection of reports of International Geological Conference" The prospects of the development of minerals and raw materials base of Ukraine and the world " which is dedicated to the jubilee of Professor B. S. Panov". The theme of the article: The effect of changes in morphology of the coal seam upon its quality parameters. Authors: Associate professor Panov U.B., course leader of group GR-07m Khoruzhaya E.V., chief geologist of the JSC "Main named after A.F. Zasyadko "Tkachenko A.V.

The structure of the work. The thesis consists of an introduction, 5 sections, conclusions and a bibliographic list of references including figures, histograms and tables.

Content of the work

The introduction represents aims, tasks and methods of research as well as the relevance of its fulfillment.

The first chapter of master's work includes the information concerning the history, geology, stratigraphy, tectonics and lithology of Donetsk-Makeyevka area.

The second chapter is devoted to the describtion of deposit geological structure in the mine field named after A.F. Zasyadko.

In third chapter represents the characteristic of quality indicators of coal (thickness, ash and sulfur content, devolatilization, humidity) as well as their industrial conditions. There was examined a method which has been used befor to identify the ash content in the coal seams by method of natural gamma activity. Qualitative characteristics of the seams l4 and l1 are being analyzed; the analogy is drawn between them and general tendency of thirchanges. Besides, this chapter represents the connection of indicators being examined with the methane abundance of coal seam.

The fourth section contains the information about calculations having been made on the basis of raw materials, tables of obtained statistics, the results of correlation analysis, the maps concerning the distribution of indicators, and histograms were made. In cartograms there are contours of seam thickness, ash and sulfur content, and wells out of which the core samples were taken and tectonic abnormarlity was imposed.

In the fifth chapter the obtained results of the research are interpreted and analyzed . All the numerical data having been obtained has to be compared with the maps so the variability of each indicator can be clearly retraced, and consequently it will be possible to make more substantiated conclusions. The preliminary prognosis of "behavior" of qualitative indicators of coal seam l4 in connection with the change of seam thickness was made. In this chapter some recommendations are given as to further extraction.
