About author

Childhood

I was born on a beautiful spring day, March 29, 1989, in a maternity department of hospital ¹17 in Donetsk. My father, Poklonskiy Yuriy Alekseyevich, who was born on December 26, 1963, works as underground electrical fitter at the mine “Oktyabrskiy Rudnik”, and my mother, Poklonskaya Olga Vladimirovna, is a cook at the railway canteen in Donetsk. When I was born my parents already had a daughter. My elder sister, Poklonskaya Inna Yurievna, who was born on December 6, 1984, is an operator of automatic gas protection at a mine.

I was brought up by my mother, my father, my sister and my grandparents, who taught me to read and write from the childhood. Thanks to them I leant to read and write very early. My early development was greatly influenced by the kindergarten “Buratino”, where I started to go when I was 3. In the kindergarten I was always a very lively, quick, bold and mischievous child. I enjoyed playing with children, taking part in various holidays, games and competitions. There were wonderful teachers in our kindergarten, who always helped us learn something new. That’s how my childhood years passed.

School

On September 1, 1996, I went to the 1st form of Donetsk Secondary School ¹74. For the first time to the first form! I don’t remember my first school line-up, but according to my parents, I was the happiest child in the world.

After finishing the first form, like all the children who had been longing for summer, I went to the children’s health camp “Sputnik”, which is in Velikoanadolskiy Forest. This is a marvelous place, where for the first time I met the dawns and understood how it was to live for eighteen days separately from parents. In the camp I was the commander of the unit, took part in competitions, had fun and gathered strength for the new-coming academic year. Many summers passed this way. But then autumn came and I had to sit down at the desk and get lots of new knowledge.

At school, like at the kindergarten, I was a restless child. But in spite of that, I loved studying and acquiring new knowledge. My school became very dear to me like home. Here I found a lot of good friends and acquaintances, many of whom still come along with me in life. Among my most favourite subjects were physical training, Russian and Ukrainian, but I was not very good at Maths. During school years I took part in contests in Ukrainian and Russian, very often winning prizes in my district. More than once I participated in competitions of readers. I loved KVN very much, in which I always took an active part. I still have a vivid recollection of the contest “Young Fireman”, thanks to which I learnt a lot of new interesting and informative things, such as putting on a gas mask. Since I was a quick and lively child, physical training had a great importance to me. In my school years I played basketball, did track and field events, taking part in various district competitions, often not yielding to boys’ speed. Twice having won a prize in track and field events, I took part in a city cross. Studying at school I was always looking forward to the last Sunday of summer. This is the Day of Miner and the Day of the city of Donetsk. On this day in our city a wonderful, bright and festive parade takes place, and I loved participating in it.

Most of all in my school years I remember the lessons of chemistry and, of course, the teacher of chemistry, Galina Arkadievna. It’s true what they say, that if you like the teacher, you will also love the subject. I was always fond of chemistry for the fact that two different and seemingly plain substances can create another one, of completely different colour or structure. That’s why, beginning from the 8th form, I went twice a week to a local chemistry study group that was led by my favourite form master. And my efforts were not in vain. I decided to become a chemist-ecologist and follow the steps of this remarkable woman. Thanks to the acquired knowledge it wasn’t too hard for me to enter the most wonderful educational institution of Donetsk, which is the National Technical University.

Student life

And so began the happiest and the merriest years of my life, the years of studying at the Donetsk National Technical University at the faculty of Ecology and Chemical Technology in the speciality “Ecological safety control”. I never regretted my choice. I was at ease with studying at the University. Besides, I found a lot of new good friends who I stay in contact with up to now.

I’ve kept the brightest impressions after the first field practice in the regional landscape park “Meotida”. Our group spent three weeks on the shore of the Sea of Azov, far from civilization. We lived in small wooden houses, where it was difficult not only to stand upright, but also to sit down. We often had to cook on a fire. Anyway, by the end of the third week we felt like real participants of the TV game “The last hero”. But on the other hand, we had a lot of bright unforgettable impressions, and thanks to such conditions we got to know each other better.

For a long time I will remember the participation in All-Ukrainian conferences in Donetsk and Zhitomir, and also taking part in an international theoretical and practical conference of young scientists and students in Kiev. And it’s not only new knowledge, it means new acquaintances, new interesting stories, friends, communication, learning something new and interesting…

In 2010, after a successful defense of the bachelor’s diploma, I started the Master course. My scientific adviser, like with the bachelor’s work before, was Associate Professor at the Chair of Applied Ecology, PhD in Chemistry – Chayka Lyudmila Viktorovna. The theme of my master’s thesis is “Improvement of landfill network – the way of forming the trends of stable development of Donetsk”. I regularly report the results of my work in scientific articles and at conferences of different levels.

Plans for the future!

“The future is the sum of unknown possibilities” (Silovan Ramishvili).

In fact, no one knows how the life of any person will turn out and whether his or her plans will be carried out… Of course, I wish all the plans would be fulfilled, but there are a lot of them and it will take a very long time to put them into practice…

First of all, I’d like to defend with distinction my qualifying thesis, obtain the Master's degree, find a professional job and, possibly, take up a postgraduate course.

Also, in my dreams, which, I won’t conceal, are full of juvenile maximalism, I see myself in about 5-10 years as an important business lady having a small (or big) firm with a wonderful staff and a united team able to lend a helping hand at any minute, with quite a decent salary (I will modestly keep back this modest sum). But above all, I am just obliged to have a big close-knit family where the children will play the most important role, the family based on mutual understanding and love!

Though these are only dreams, they are full of common sense, to which I will aspire as much as I can and I’ll do my best to overcome all the obstacles on my way.

And above all, I will try to never forget the years spent at the University, and as I dare to repeat, the best years in my so far short life. And I hope I will proudly call myself a graduate of the Donetsk National Technical University!
