topic: "Development heating engineering bases of process of the Liquid phase reduction furnace  of iron from ferriferous waste products"

The basic of the process of the Liquid phase reduction furnace (LFRF) is the reduction smelting of iron ore concentrates in the bubble slug bath with coal mixed in it. Through a special tuyere system the oxygen blast is fed into the bath.

The feedstock is the charge consisting of finely dispersed iron ore concentrate, power generating coal and limestone.

Granulometric composition of the charge materials has no lower bound, the upper limit being 20-25 mm.

The starting humidity of the charge is 10 – 16 %, the required humidity of the charge being not more than 6 %.

The products of the liquid phase reduction are: pig iron, slag, gas with calorific value 10000-12000 kJ/m3.

The advantage of the liquid phase reduction furnace is opportunity to use lean coals with the low calorific value instead of costly coke in process of pig iron producing and also application of finely dispersed iron ore feedstock without its preliminary preparation in the form of pellets and sinter.

The problem of preparation of wastes with iron content for reuse is rather complicated and has no universal solution.

High dispersity and humidity. The content of heavy metals, alkalis and sulfur compounds give rise to a number of problems for their usage in the metallurgical cycle.

All these problems are solved while processing dust and slag in the liquid phase reduction furnace.

That is why LFRF can be used not only for pig iron production from finely disprersed concetrates without their agglomeration but also for utilization of metallurgical dust and slag with iron content 35 - 55% with minimum expenditure for their preparation and without any expenditure for cast house building for pig iron tapping by the traditional method.
