The problem of chopping off the technological slag during the process of steel output from the melting aggregates has a specific actuality in the conditions of wide implementation on of new metal treatment methods at the “ladle stove” devices. The success of the indicated problem decision depends on technical abilities of mechanical equipment, providing non-slag steel output into the slag ladle.
For the last 30 years in the oxygen converter production of steel the leading foreign companies have tested some technological. Schemes of active slag amount regulation, falling down into a slag ladle during the metal output.
Floating balls systems or floating stopper systems are based on the usage of cutting off elements, made of fire-proof material and put into a converter basing with the help of special machine (manipulator). Due to correctly calculated a material density, used for elements productions, their top part is at the border point of metal and slag phases and at the moment of the slag layer approaching to the expust of the oxygen converter and this part blocks it.
Sliding gate system means fixing the sliding type on the surface body of mechanical device supplied by the special hydraulic or electromechanical drive, providing movement of mobile refractopy flag, blocking the final channel of steel-smelting aggregate at the moment of partics of slag appearance in the stream of metal, outflowing into a ladle.
The gaz dynamics system provides chopping off slag alloy effecting the outflowing stream of rare or neutral gas, given under surplus pressure through the nozzle, tricked into the output of final converter channel by the turning lever operated by the special mechanism.
Each of the mentioned systems has advantages and disadvantages showing up in a greater or less measure depending on the concrete production conditions of their application. For the optimization of the cutting off methods and chosing the most appropriate equipment for its implementation it is to take into account at the choice of optimum method of chopping off.
The method of chopping off slag by the floating type elements require considerably less expenses as necessity in an expensive control and measuring apparatus disappears at their application.

State of question
The specifying of manipulators work carrying chopping off elements into a converter is conditioned by not only extreme conditions of their explatation (high temperatures, considerable loadings and made dusty of surrounding space) but also by the necessity of providing of high exactness of working body positioning and compactness of placing the structure in non-working position. The indicated features of exploitation make great demands to construction of manipulator, which must be taken into account on the stage of his edition.
Conclusions
Design of manipulator for the input of chopping elements in converter 160 t allows to provide possibility of its transformation, that allows not to create a hindrance to other machines working on a ground near a converter.
