Abstract |
My middle mark at the university was 4.9. Being a Russian native speaker, I am fluent in Ukrainian and English and have certain reading and writing skills in French. The software I am familiar with is C/C++, Borland C++ Builder 6, HTML and PHP editors, MathCad, Visio, Compass 5/11, MatLAB, SystemView, LabView, Packet Tracer, Opnet. My hobbies are history, programming, preference (card game), and tennis (big).
I was lucky to be born on a holiday, 9 May 1987, in the city of Donetsk. It is really very convenient when your birthday is always a day-off. My parents: father, Yakov V. Tomara, economist; mother, Alla M. Tomara, housewife. I don't remember something special about the first years of my life. As all children, I actively explored the world around me: walking, running, climbing trees; I learned to draw, read and write; went to the kindergarten.
What I can recall is that in pre-school age I was interested in science fiction related to space and even began to write a novel (something about rockets, aliens and lasers) although I wonder now where I could have read about those things.
On 1 September 1994 I became a pupil of Donetsk School # 95. There I received my first attainments in sciences and learned a lot more about life. Those first school years were very bright and interesting and for that I remain thankful above all to my first teacher - Svetlana N. Kosolobova. In autumn 1999 I entered School # 35 with advanced teaching of mathematics and physics, which I later finished with a golden medal. There I received a valuable fund of knowledge that helped me a good deal in the further education. I will always be grateful to my school teachers, especially to Danil L. Konashenkov and Tatiana I. Sokolova, our math teachers and class masters.
Among my school achievements worth mentioning were the participation in regional 'Olympic' contests in math and English and mastering Pascal algorithmic language. In the early school period I was keen on tennis, later trained in ju-jitsu.
After having finished the 10th school year I felt it was time to think about the future. I decided that Donetsk National Technical University would be the best option. Being interested in IT more than in anything else, I chose Computer IT & Automation Department with Telecommunication Systems & Networks as a major because TSN was one of the 'youngest' and high-tech specialist fields with good job prospects. I managed to enter the University after having passed rating tests in spring 2004.
As all newcomers, at first I was a bit confused by the new environment with campus buildings scattered over a big area, the system of auditorium numbering being somewhere unusual etc. A pleasant surprise for me was writing lectures from dictation (it seemed to me from the books I read in childhood that university lecturers just speak and you have to write down what you manage to). As the time passed, I got used to the student's life, became seriously interested in subjects and began to study special literature. It contributed greatly to my progress in study and later helped me to enter a master's degree programme.
In addition to my IT studies, in the spring 2007, I decided to take a course of organization management at Postgraduate Education Institute of our University. The deeper study of economics, law and personnel management has widened my professional scope and will hopefully be useful in the future.
Talking about my achievements during those years I would like to mention the participation in two conferences organized by UDEC Group in Kiev and Dnepropetrovsk and in the national students' contest BUSINESS BATTLE 2008 (the second visit to Kiev), where our team “Re Non Verbis” represented our University. Besides being very useful and interesting, those events gave me the opportunity to visit the above cities.
I decided to become an MS in Telecom Systems to gather more specialist skills and also obtain a more 'value-added' diploma. I often heard from other students skeptical comments on the Master's programme such as "6 month waste of time, nothing useful". Some told me that Master's diploma makes no advantage in the job market. However I believed that extra education would do no harm and it was worthwhile taking the state-financed opportunity to 'polish' my education. I was lucky to be admitted to the Master's programme as my average mark was high enough.
The choice of my master work theme was a result of my interest in the programming part of network infrastructure building. In fact, I am fond of 'soft' much more than of 'hard'. I studied the list of the themes proposed by our Chair's lecturers and chose the most attractive one: Routing Algorithms in Wireless Networks.
For the knowledge and skills I have got I would like to thank all the staff of our Automated Technology Chair and especially my scientific adviser Victoria Y. Voropayeva.
As I look back to my student life, it seems to be the most bright, eventful and interesting period of my life so far. During these years I have learned and understood much, met many interesting people and made many mistakes which I can now learn from. :-)
My nearest goal is to complete my Master work and obtain both degrees: MS in Telecom and BA in Management. Afterwards I'm planning to find a good and interesting job. Its relation with my major is also important - or what was all that for? Besides, providing poeple with communication is good and useful.
My plans also include further studying of the European history; the list of books I'd like to read is pretty long. Actually I wish to get an insight into the society development processes. In addition I want to revive my habit of visiting tennis courts.
In the more distant future I'm going to be married (and then, what is a family without children?). The goal of my life is to become wealthy enough to acquire a country estate and several horses: I find horseback riding to be extremely amazing. :-)
