Aims and objectives:

The aim of the work is development activities aimed at:

  1. Introduction coal-dust fuel insufflation technology on the BF № 3 JSC "Enakievo Iron and Steel Works";
  2. Reducing the consumption of coke and the cost of iron in the blast melting on the example JSC "Enakievo Iron and Steel Works"

To achieve these objectives be resolved the following tasks:

  1. To explore methods of improving and enhancing the efficiency of the BF melting without natural gas insufflation in blast-furnace hearth as a supplementary fuel in BF№ 3 technological conditions JSC "Enakievo Iron and Steel Works"
  2. To explore methods of improving and enhancing the efficiency of the BF melting with pulverized-coal injection as a supplementary fuel in BF№ 3 technological conditions JSC "Enakievo Iron and Steel Works";
  3. 2. Based on the principle of full compensation to develop the technological regime with the best performance for the BF № 3 JSC "Enakievo Iron and Steel Works";
  4. 3. Consider the activities and systems to improve control and optimize the technological process of BF melting with injection of coal-dust fuel.

A topical issue

Steel Industry - Leading the field of industry of Ukraine that determine to a considerable degree the economic potential of the country. The main stage production of ferrous metals is the iron production.

The level of energy costs in the iron melting determines its value and the cost of steel products. Thus, the production of iron is closely linked to the production of coke, and depend on it. Quality and price of coke, is influential parameters of the technical and economic iron production, in turn, depend heavily on coking coal share in the charge for coking, deficit which inevitably increases. In addition to shortage of coking coal, coke production virtually in all countries with the developed steel production is connected with the following main challenges:

  • requirements tightening for the environment protection, which requires an investment in the coke production to coke batteries modernization;
  • outdated park of coke batteries and the high capital costs for construction of new coke batteries.

However, in recent years the level of blast furnace melting technical and economic indices of the Ukraine iron and steel industry far behind the level of industrialized countries. Natural gas in Ukraine has became a scarce and imported energy, the value of which increased several times and almost reached the value of coke.

Technical and economic difficulties in solving these problems is a powerful incentive to find ways of reducing the consumption of coke in the iron and steel industry. With a dominant blast furnace position in the iron production , the main way of solving this problem in the short term can only be a decrease consumption of coke.

Meeting environmental requirements for the production of coke is also possible through the use of new coke technological processes production and machinery to expand the range of coals in the coke charge without coke quality deteriorating . Specific consumption reduction of coke in the BF melting reachs by decision two independent tasks:

  • reducing the total fuel consumption in the blast furnace melting;
  • reducing the consumption of coke, by increasing the flow rate of blown tuyere fuel.

The first problem is solvs by improving the quality of iron ore and coke, improving the efficiency of heat transfer in furnaces by optimizing the distribution of charge materials and gas range furnace and reduce heat loss, increase the temperature of blast, blast furnaces and modernization of their infrastructure, reduce time to time, increase the duration their campaign, increasing the productivity of furnaces.

Economic efficiency of the second task is determined by hardware and fuel insufflation technology and ratio of cost blown fuel and coke. The solution this problem even more, especially in pulverized-coal fuel injection depends on the quality of coke and iron ore materials.

Subject of inquiry

BF melting technology with pulverized-coal insufflation in blast-furnace hearth.

Subject of investigation.

Enhancement technological resource with use of additional fuel on the basis of full and comprehensive compensation and their negative impact on the technological parameters of the blast furnace melting.

Scientific novelty of this work

For the first time shown that calculated for the technological conditions of blast furnace № 3 JSC "Enakievo Iron and Steel Works"based on complete and comprehensive compensation blast furnace melting technology with pulverized-coal insufflation in blast-furnace hearth, and without use of natural gas, can provide additional replacement fuels to 50% of coke , increasing furnace productivity, cost reduction of iron.

Expected practical results.

The results of this work will be use for blast furnace № 3 JSC "Enakievo Iron and Steel Works".
