Biography

Anna Andreyevna Dirko, later mentioned as "I", was born on the 28th of February 1982 in the town of Druzhkovka, Donetsk region, in the family of teachers. My childhood was joyful and careless and left me a lot of nice and warm memories. My grandmother, a teacher by profession, very quickly taught me to read and count. Thanks to her I didn't experience any difficulties with adjusting to school, it was easy and interesting to me.

School years

In 1990 my family moved to Makeyevka and I continued my education in the second form of school # 89. Being fond of English and mathematics, I wanted to learn these subjects deeper than ordinary school programme would allow. Therefore I started the new studying year of 1995 in school # 37, in a form, where these subjects were taught profoundly. In 1997-1999 I participated in district contests in English, Ukrainian and Geography, where I took the 1st places. In summer of 1998 I was lucky to visit England. After the trip my language skills and habits improved considerably and it enabled me to take a prize place in regional contest of 1999.

The same year I left the school with honours and just as well as all the other graduates had to solve a question of further education. I liked the subject "economics", which was introduced on the last year at school, besides, I was eager to connect my future profession with the English language, so I entered Donetsk National Technical University (at that time Donetsk State Technical University), specialty "International Economics".

Years at University

University years passed very quickly, I was studying with great interest. In 2001 I took part in debates on Human Rights, organized by Donetsk Youth Debate Centre. In may 2003 I participated in a conference, dedicated to the issue of understanding other cultures. The conference took place in Kharkov and was hosted by International Student organization AIESEC.

Having received a diploma with honours of basic higher education on "Economics and Entrepreneurship" direction upon completion of 4 years of studying, I felt I needed to increase my knowledge level; therefore I continued my education at the magistrates of Donetsk National Technical University on "International Economics" specialty.

As a would-be specialist in the field of international economics I realized I needed international business experience. It was the main motive of my taking part in a students exchange programme by AIESEC students organization. In autumn 2003 I went for a traineeship to Poland, to the city of Torun. During the traineeship I had an opportunity not only to learn the principles of foreign company's structure and functioning but practically use the received knowledge in the sphere of international business as well as gain some Polish language skills.

Choice of the Dissertation Topic

The issue of foreign investment was drawing my attention for a long time. And not only because it is one of the most interesting topics in International Economics, but also because namely attracting foreign investment is one of the strategic governmental tasks for improvement of economic situation in Ukraine. Nevertheless, the consequences of foreign capital in national economy haven't been studied completely; the question of mathematical evaluation of its influence on economic development of recipient countries hasn't been given proper attention. This all prompted me to study this problem and made for my choice of the such topic for a master's thesis.

Plans for Future

I would like to defend my master's diploma and successfully graduate from the University. In the nearest future I want to become a first class specialist in the field of international economics and hope that I will be able to use the knowledge I received in a company with foreign activities. I believe that the received skills will become a basis of professional and personal development and will serve as a great help while working in the field of international business.
