I. Opening part

1. Introduction

                This dissertation is a logical continuation of the DonNTU student’s research work, which were start in initiative order in the year 2000. At that time it was accepted decision about making the virtual models of all university buildings, campus and nearby territory. Considering modern development level of the communication technology and Internet in particular, appeared necessity to organize the access to project through worldwide network. On given moment by the most perspective variant of the decision of this task is an integration of the designed models in evolving navigation and education program Google Earth. Since age of this project is small, not a lot of people take part in filling the world map by three-dimensional contents. On given moment on the map of Ukraine is located less than 10 objects and only half of them has an acceptable level of detail, most are only symbolic indication of the buildings or monument. From educational institutes of our country DonNTU is the first university, placed on the virtual three-dimensional map of the world.

2. Purposes and tasks of the work

                In spite of great scales of the project, for present-day already exist three-dimensional virtual models of nine buildings, four hostels and the gym. The Priority task is increasing level of their detail and place them on Google Earth’s map. Also actual is a problem of the reduction of the sizes of models (in kilobytes) with saving maximum accuracy of the architecture and most degree of photorealism. The Main purpose of the whole project is a presentation of the DonNTU campus in the Internet, at the greatly available to potential student or possible employee of the university manner.

3. Supposed scientific novelty and planned practical value

                With standpoint of scientific novelty this project is valued that it contains the benchmark analysis of the methods of modeling and estimation their positive and negative sides, as well as got experimental findings of the dependencies occupied by model size from accuracy of the geometries and degree of a photorealism. Also this work is first (amongst countries former C.I.S.) by attempt full-fledged and realistically present campus of educational institute in the Internet, by the assets of Google Earth.
Practical value of this work will be gotten as a result accessibility and popularization information about DonNTU in the Internet. Will also increase the circle of the persons, interested by viewing the results of that work, to account that it aside from information value it has certain aesthetic and innovation value that, again, will enlarge the interest to university directly.

II. Main part

1. Local review

                As it was already mentioned earlier - this dissertation is a logical continuation of the DonNTU student’s research work, which were start in initiative order in the year 2k. The main ideological and spiritual curator of the project is Anoprienko Alexander Yakovlevich. Under his aegis and tactful guidance this project is developing up till now.
The first students, who start to model the buildings of the university were: Matveev Alexander Aleksandrovich (ct. gr. VT97-a) and Babkov Viktor Svyatozarovich (ct. gr. VT96-b). They worked together and did the most available for present-day buildings. Their functioning lasted up to 2002. Hereon project became to advance slowly, because the requirements to details and accuracy of the models become much above, and one person already was unable to do about ten high quality models a year. Exactly because of increasing of the quality criterion, on given moment first created models need some fundamental remake.
The next student participated in that project, was Mischenko Elena Nikolaevna (VT-01a). Except directly building models she has done demonstration animation of interior of the first building of the university.
Today in this project participating only me - Grischenko Alexander Vyacheslavovich (KS-02a). For present-day I made high detailed sixth building of DonNTU with adjoining garden and service outhouses. This construction is already placed on Google Earth map and any interested person can to get acquainted with it. Also leading work on increasing amount of details on the first building for the reason its further use in the same program.
Amongst the other faculty of our university there aren’t projects like that but there are indirectly bounded subjects.

2. National review

         Searching for publication or some other information, allowing draw a conclusion about that in other high educational institutions of our country there are similar researches, gave nothing. On some design faculty people modeling interiors or made landscape design, technical professions conduct some studies with use of three-dimensional models of the separate details or instrument. The Medical institutes work with three-dimensional model of the hutches (such, as HIV and DNA) or organ, and architect high schools make models of buildings only for demonstrative presentation of the designed drawing.
In all these events, with the exclusion of design interior, models serves only demonstrative addition separate result functioning and always carry the symbol nature not photorealistic.

3. World review

                Searching for works with similar subject at world scale has brought about that amongst countries former C.I.S. was found only one single institute, presented in Google Earth with own model - a Moscow institute of radio mechanics electronics and automations. However their model has a schematic nature - buildings are marked brown polygonal figure, repeating only main form. And no material about that work on the institute’s site wasn’t found.
                Also similar subjects in MGU was studied by Konushin A.S. in its candidate's thesis 2005 "Algorithms of the building of the three-dimensional computer modeling real object for systems of the virtual reality", however several on the other hand.
                In many countries of the Europe, as well as in America, Canada and Australia there are special institutes, concerning with directly study computer graphics. In such sort of educational institutions for creation of photorealistic three-dimensional models train in current several years and often this manage several pulpits (in events when this process subdivides on "architectural modeling", "texturing" and "visualization exterior").

III. Postlude

1. Description of existed and planned results on subject

                At the point development there is models of three buildings, practically ready to place in Internet. One of them already completely done and placed in Google Earth while another two needing for a certain optimization and in a short period of time will too be available from worldwide network. Hereinafter planned to model and place the remained building models. Herewith necessary to find the optimal algorithm of modeling and find the most profitable correlation of accuracy of a model to occupied size.

2. Findings and conclusion

                For present-day long-run objective project is not yet reached, however already there are some results, showing that functioning moves in right direction. Regrettably, it is complicated to call available models optimum, but at the time of development there are active experiments upon their improvement and optimization.
