Childhood

I was born on the 29 of June 1986 in Yasinovataya city (Donetsk region). My parents are: mother —Zavalkina (Moiseenko) Elena Yegorovna, father —Zavalkin Alexander Dmitrievich.

“Kolokol’chik” was my first kindergarten. But I went there not long (that’s why I don’t remember it at all): it was situated far from our house. So I was soon taken to another kindergarten “Solnishko”. The brightest memory of “Solnischko” is poking different pictures out on wooden boards. It seems to me, one of them has still kept.

I was six, when our family moved to Avdeevka (also Donetsk region), è ÿ ñòàë õîäèòü â äåòñêèé ñàä "Ìàëûø". I went to the kindergarten “Malish”. My first knowledge of computer technology occurred there: several play stations and computers (I don’t remember their model, because I was interested in other things then) were set in “Malish” and we played them. Unfortunately, that knowledge wasn’t long: logopedist examined us at kindergarten. It occurred, I couldn’t utter “r”. So I was taken to the kindergarten “Ivushka”, where logopedist was on the staff. The most exciting memory of thet time was the medal, which logopedist gave us for our progress in studying. We were allowed to wear it during the whole day, Children, who didn’t visit logopedist, really envied us.

School

In 1993, when I was 7, I had to go to the school. Private school was opened in our town then. And I started my first form there. As far back as I went to kindergarten my grandfather taught me how to read and write. That’s why it was easy to study at first year and I finished it with top marks in all subjects. After I had finished my second year, our private school was closed down. I continued studying at secondary school 6 (till the 9 form).

My favorite subjects at school were Mathematics, History and Geography. I also tried to do well in other subjects. I participated  in different Olympic competitions; not only in my favorite subjects, but in some other ones (for example, in Biology). I took  different places, but I didn’t participate in region Olympic competitions. When I was a nine-form pupil, I decided to enter lyceum of Donetsk National University. To prepare for the entrance exam in Mathematics I enrolled in Open Mathematical College of Donetsk National University, where I studied for a year in A.L. Pavlov’s group.

And the day of entrance exam came. It was test in Mathematics. There were 25 tasks: 5 levels with 5 tasks. I coped with the first four levels (20 tasks). And I had only 5 minutes to do the last 5 tasks. So I did it almost at random (and I even guessed one or two of them). We had to wait for the results till 5 p.m., but it was worth that I entered the lyceum.

Lyceum

During 2001-2003 (10 and 11 forms) I studied at lyceum of Donetsk National University. It was really hard to study at lyceum comparing to school. We studied six days a week. And every day we had at least three classes. The way between Avdeevka and Donetsk also took a lot of rime. First time I was really exhausted. But in several months it became usual daily routine for me. Almost all subjects were taught in Ukrainian. First time it was difficult to study in Ukrainian, but in a couple of months I had no problems with it.

At the beginning of 11 form I began thinking of my future after the lyceum. As a leaver of mathematical form of lyceum of Donetsk National University I could enter the faculty of Mathematics of Donetsk National University without passing exams. But I didn’t feel myself as a great mathematician. I was fond of programming since my 10 form. So I had to choose whether I would enter —the faculty of Mathematics of Donetsk National University or the faculty of Computer Science of Donetsk National Technical University. I chose the faculty of Computer Science of Donetsk National Technical University because my parents had studied there and I could increase my chance to enter due to passing ratings. Also I decided  to enroll in preliminary courses. I didn’t manage to, enroll in courses of Donetsk National Technical Universitybecause it was too late file an application (classes had already started). So I started courses of Donetsk Centre of University Entrants’ Preparation. I did my courses on Sundays (during 5-6 hours). So all my studying made me go to Donetsk 7 days per week – it was really hard. But it wasn’t in vain. As a result I entered the university (Software specialty) according to rating.

University

I appeared in PS-03g group. I studied in that group till my forth year. Our group was good. But, unfortunately, by the end of forth year only 12 students remained (instead of 20): some students continued studying of correspondence.

I was found many friends on our course. But my closest Friend (it’s exactly with the capital letter) is Astakhov Alexey. We studied four years together, got ours honours bachelor’s diplomas with the same average mark 4.88 and entered the magistracy. It has been much more easier to study at university than at lyceum, especially on the first and second years. I even thought of entering the second specialty. But it was thoughts and only.

University became my second home. I think, it will be difficult for me to leave it in December after defense of my master’s work. So I’ll try to enter post-graduate course in order not to leave my native university.

Plans for future

My first goal is to make and defend my master’s work successfully. The second aim is to enter post-graduate course. In far future I see myself as a Doctor of Philosophy, head of projects or department head in a serious software company, or maybe as a president of my own software company.
