Management strategy by innovative activity



Introduction

Relevance of the topic. Imperfection of market infrastructure, outdated industry structure of production, lack of financial resources and ineffective legislation indicates a problem of strategic management in Ukraine and is the main factor of inhibition of innovation development of domestic enterprises even though Ukrainian scientific and economic base possesses sufficient scientific and technical potential. One of the main drawbacks in the development of innovation sphere of enterprises is the lack of effective methods of control which ensure the effective development of innovation potential of Ukrainian enterprises taking into account their national peculiarities. Moreover, this efficient system of innovation management is required not only for newly created business entities but also for the existing ones.

Theoretical and scientific meaning of innovation management as an effective component of a hierarchical system of strategic management is reflected in the studies of both foreign and ukrainian authors, namely Ansoff I., Vihanskiy A., Volodkin M. V., Galchinskogo A., Geytsa V. M., Drucker P., Nemtsov V., Ponomarenko V., Porter M., Strickland A., Thompson A., Chandler A., Shershnev S.E., Yastremskii A.M.. Furthermore, nowadays we observe active development of the Ukrainian School of Strategic Management of Innovations which involves leading economists, theorists and practitioners: Grinyov A.V., Danylyshyn B.M., Zaruba W. J., Ivanov J., Ilyashenko S.M., Krikavsky E.B., Landik V.I. , Orlov P., Pererva P.G., Sadek A., Yakovlev A.I. and others. However, some problems of implementation of innovative management remain insufficiently studied. In particular, further consideration is required in improvement of the functioning mechanism of innovation management as an effective component of strategic management, innovation level of industrial enterprises needs to be estimated and at the light of these results the existing methods of evaluation of investment attractiveness should be improved.


The aim of the study is to develop a system of strategic innovation management on an enterprise. According to this aim the following tasks are stated:

- To define the notion and state the role of strategic innovation management in the development of economic relations at present stage;

- To evaluate the main theoretical problems of functioning of innovation management and recent improvement in the structure of strategic management;

- Identify key tendencies in the development of innovative activities of industrial enterprises of Ukraine and name the strategic directions of state regulation of innovation sphere;

- To conduct an analysis of innovative activity of Ukrainian enterprises;

- To develop a balanced scorecard to improve innovation activity on enterprises;

- To develop guidelines and strategy for innovation management on enterprises;

- Develop a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of innovation activities of companies.

- To investigate and evaluate the process of implementation of strategic innovation management.

The object of study – the process of innovation activity on an enterprise.

Subject of research – basic principles and techniques of strategic innovation management on an enterprise.

Research methods. Тhe theoretical base of the final master's theses are objective laws and fundamental issues of economic theory, theory of innovation and strategic management, scientific works of national and foreign scientists.

The following research methods are used in the study: analysis and synthesis in order to differentiate and synthesize factors of innovative and economic development of an enterprise; classifications in order to study the economic nature of different types of innovations and determine the features of the innovation management planning; statistical analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of innovation and investment campaigns; expert evaluation method to study the nature of factors of the innovation potential of enterprises; graphical visualization to present the conclusion of the research.

The information base for the research are normative and legislative acts of Ukraine regulating innovation activities of enterprises, the main points of scientific papers of national and foreign scientists analyzing the problems within the field of study, official data of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, organizational and managerial documentation of enterprises, scientific materials and practical conferences, periodical and Internet data .


Contents of work

The introduction to the work presents the actuality of the topic, the core and current state of the problem in study, gives the definition of the research objectives, estimates its scientific novelty and establishes the practical utility of its results.

The first sections of the master’s thesis theoretical and methodological foundations of strategic management are considered together with the necessity of using an innovative strategy as a basis for sustainable development of enterprises.

Evolutionary development of strategic management theory highlighted the steady components, nature, content and direction of which mark the balance of interests of direct participants in the strategic cycle through the usage of clear rules and certain steadiness of the implementation of managerial processes. The feature of the structure of strategic management is to build a chain of such classical stages of management as formulation of the mission and definition of goals of an enterprise, strategic analysis of the environment, selection and development of its implementation strategy and, definitely, control over this implementation within which the relative influence of each individual link on other parts in particular and on the whole system is general is estimated. Analysis of the dynamics of the implementation of generally accepted stages of management has clearly demonstrated the need for a stage strategic monitoring instead of stage strategic control.

Much attention is also paid to innovative processes. Development of innovative processes in Ukraine is now determined by the overall state of its economy which has undergone a profound systemic crisis in recent years. Socially oriented market economy has radically changed the economic structure of society together with the priorities of the strategic management of the country.

The main content of modern strategic management lies in the fact that strategic decision-making venture together with internal factors of the development must take into account market conditions, that is, not only to simulate their own behavior in the current external environment, but also include management of internal affairs. It must be based on such fundamental positions as the difference from the classical principles of management, focus on the issues of flexibility and adaptability to ever-changing external environment, the use of systemic methods and situational approach, focus on new conditions and components of management development, practical application of new management principles etc. In such circumstances one way of solving strategic tasks aimed at the sustainable development of enterprises could be the development and implementation of one’s own innovation strategy.

The second section of this work presents the analysis of current situation and trends in innovative activity of national enterprises, the mechanism of implementation of their management strategies. The methods of estimation of the effectiveness of innovation activities of the enterprise are named, the identification of participants of the innovation process together with the relationships between them is shown, methods of decision making in the field of strategic innovation management company are applied.

The main directions of innovation development of Ukraine in 2000-2010 were the acquisition of rights for patents and licensing of industrial property, research in the field of marketing and advertising. The main source of funding innovative development were internal funds of enterprises whose share of total innovation expenditures accounted for more than 70%.

The choice of forms and means of implementing the innovation strategy at the macro-and micro-management of innovation depends on the use of certain tools of economic management most of which rely on attracting a significant amount of financial resources, though they have certain specific features. This raises the need for a sound conscious choice of the most effective and flexible ones in terms of national innovation sphere. The key to the success may be the selection of priorities in the sphere of public innovation policies which include promotion of innovative orientation and competitiveness of national products, support for basic scientific research, development of education, etc.

In the third section there are recommendations and methodological approaches of the creation of an innovation management strategy, methodology for prioritization of goals connected with innovative activities of companies, methodical recommendations on the strategic management of the company. Finally, the estimation of investment attractiveness of an enterprises is illustrated as a strategic management tool.

According to the model of strategic planning and major planning stages of development of an enterprise, business model has been adapted to the realities of economic affairs and illustrated in the following Chart 1.

According to the Chart 1 the concept of Balanced Scorecard is made within the traditional scheme of the strategy. Thus, in any case it is advisable to begin with the preparation or revision of the mission and vision of the organization. Next, you need to conduct a SWOT-analysis and then develop a strategic plan for the company. The main advantage provided by a Balanced Scorecard is that the strategy becomes measurable. So, the company will get a reliable tool for monitoring the progress of the strategy and in the course of time the management will know exactly the whether the strategic plan is fulfilled or not.
