Introduction

        Transport network is the basis of every telecommunication infrastructure. While choosing its technology one should take into account not only the modern state of industry, but also existing tendencies, including progressive growth of transmitted information [3]. Today Synchronous Digital Hierarchy transport networks are dominant in Public Switch Telephone Networks (PSTN), in Local Area Network (LAN) interconnections and are widely used in Public Land Mobile Networks (PLMN) for Base Station Controllers (BSC) and Mobile services Switching Centers (MSC) connections. So, the major part of PLMN network architecture is based on SDH technology.
        SDH is a synchronous digital transport system with mainly fiber optic media, which provides simple, economic and flexible telecommunication network infrastructure [1, 2].
        The choice of topic is made according to necessity to solve a classic problem of transport network optimization and the solution will lead to network planning process acceleration.

Task erection

        There is a plan to analyze complicated SDH network topologic structures, to develop the mathematical model of network for dynamic process research, to emulate and analyze network processes and to ground its efficiency. The results of research will be recommendations on efficiency and reliability growth and functionality expansion.
        The object of research is the transport network in PLMN. Mobile network operators are expanding their coverage and enlarging capacity by increasing the number of Base Tranceiver Stations (BTS). That is why the network which connects BTSs, BSCs and MCSs becoming more complicated.

Received and planned results

        The most frequently used SDH network topology is ring, because it provides good protection of connection lines without additional equipment. Ring is the simplest and the most economic way to unite a few network elements. Different protection mechanisms can be used. Bytes K1 and K2 in Section Over Head (SOH) of SDH frame are responsible for reserve switching.
        Cascade scheme of network can be built with the help of SDH rings of different levels. Moreover, optical tribes of previous level can be used to proceed to higher level Synchronous Transport Module (STM-N). So, high speed, reliable and flexible transport systems of different scale and need (core, distribution and access layers) is possible to create using SDH.

        To reach more reliability, rings can be connected in two nodes of the network. Reserve lines, cross connections, other topologic solutions are added to ring topology for more effective use of the network and as a result meshed topology is obtained.
        Transport network architecture is dynamic, it grows and is reconfigured. That is why important task is to measure the loading of the network, its changes and according to some estimation to assume expert decision about network reconfiguration.
