Spanish language and its popularization

How it all began

From the beginning of the second semester of the third year of undergraduate education, the rather monotonous activity as a student began to become routine. From that moment I had the idea to start doing something else, additionally. At that time, I had long love to the Spanish language, to its pronunciation.

In the evening of August 2017, I decided to start learning Spanish, without understanding in what I am getting into :) The beginning of the study was very exciting and took place a motivational boost. And there is the note caught my mother's eyes on the site of DonNTU that there on my birthday, April 23, 2017 Russian-Spanish center opens. What a sign! After a month of self-study of a language, it became very interesting for me to go to study in a group, especially since it started just a few months ago.

Already in September I looked into the international department to Sergei Georgievich Dzhura. But it turned out that the center didn't open, but they still formed one group. He directed me to a teacher, Angelica Ramirez.Having received a task from her in order to catch up with the group, I began my more serious study of the Spanish language.

Fortunately, I was very lucky to get into a group with motivated people who love Spanish and, of course, with a wonderful teacher who is a native Spanish speaker!

Spanish today is considered the third (and according to some sources, even the second) the most widely spoken language in the world both in terms of the number of speakers and the number of countries that have chosen it as the main or one of the official languages. More than 400 million people in the world speak Spanish. The pronunciation and manner of speaking, of course, vary from country to country, but these differences are not so great that the language becomes completely incomprehensible for residents of different states.

Hispanic population is one of the fastest growing today. This is truly a huge community that opens up a wealth of opportunities for trade and business contacts, for production and cultural exchange. Already, Spanish is the third largest in the world after Chinese and English. Experts predict that by 2050, the number of people who speak Spanish will increase to 530 million.

Even today, translation agencies have noted an increase in demand for Spanish. Increasingly, people are applying for a Spanish translation of business and personal documents, as well as oral communications and negotiations [1].

In addition, Czech linguist and mathematician Jakub Marian created a new map, which this time is devoted to the preferences of Europeans in the study of foreign languages. It turned out that Spanish is especially popular with young people. The amateur cartographer used data from the 2018 Eurobarometer to draw a chart. Statistics showed that the majority of Europeans aged 15-30 would choose Spanish to learn [2].

Despite the fact that the Spanish language is the second largest in the world in terms of distribution, in our country it continues to remain relatively forgotten. A lot of people learn French or German, but quite a few people learn Spanish. This situation, in my opinion, needs to be changed.

To popularize the language, a Russian-Spanish magazine is published at DonNTU Quijotes.

In the magazine you can read about importance of the Spanish language in the world, the main news of the Spanish-speaking world, the section about people, literature, leisure, Spanish cooking and much more. At the moment, there are already three issues of this magazine.

Conclusion

Lastly, I would like to say that the Spanish language is not very difficult to learn, especially if imbue with its spirit. Therefore, I urge everyone to at least try to listen to the Spanish language and, if you feel something mutual to him, immerse yourself in its fascinating study.
